Born on November 15, 1944, in Yonkers, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Ruth Mernik and was predeceased by her older brother Joseph. Marjorie received a Bachelors of Science in social work from Columbia University. She was a dedicated social worker within Child Protective Services in Westchester County for over three decades.
Marjorie held many passions in her life. She was an avid reader, ‘50s music aficionado, and dabbled in diverse artistic mediums, often gifting handmade jewelry and paintings to her family. Her generosity shone through her love of cats—sharing her home with them was a great source of joy in her life.
Marjorie lived in Yonkers for most of her life until she relocated to Fishkill to be closer to her son and his family. She then volunteered her time teaching art classes to the seniors at the Beacon Recreation Center.
She is survived by her son Mike and his wife Caryn. She was very proud to be “Grandma” to Emily, Logan, and Julia and “GG” to her great-granddaughter Cassidy. Marjorie is also survived by her ex-husband and lifelong friend, John.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made in her name to Mid-Hudson Animal Aid at 54 Simmons Lane, Beacon, NY 12508.
Per Marjorie’s wishes, her family held a private graveside service at Mount Hope Cemetery.
