Born to Charles and Regina (Tatz) Ralis on September 2, 1942 in Philadelphia, Marlene attended Philadelphia High School for Girls (Girls’ High) before earning her undergraduate degree at Temple University and a Master’s at the University of Illinois. While at Temple, she met Mike Rosen, the love of her life, to whom she was married for 61 years.
For most of their marriage, they lived in Oberlin, Ohio, where Marlene was a professor of voice for 35 years, touching the lives of countless students as a teacher, mentor, and friend. In addition to her teaching, Marlene was a regular performer of opera, contemporary classical compositions, and lieder.
Following their retirement from Oberlin, Marlene and Mike settled in Nyack, New York, to be closer to family.
Marlene was a lover of fine food, murder mysteries, a variety of word puzzles, Bernese Mountain Dogs, and a good manicure, but her greatest joy came from her family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Rebecca (Joe Karten) and Josh (Chanin Becker Rosen), grandchildren, Aaron, Jordan, and Hannah, niece, Elise, and nephews, Michael and Joshua.
