Raised in the Bronx, Maxine attended Bronx public schools before going on to Hunter College of New York City, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1949 - an early reflection of the purpose and care she would carry into the work of her life.
Maxine became a school teacher, offering her time and attention with the steady commitment of someone who understood how meaningful it is to be present for others day after day. She spent the majority of her teaching years at Anne Hutchinson Elementary School in Eastchester, NY, teaching first and second grade students. While there, she forged life-long friendships with many fellow educators.
In 1954, Maxine married Cellock Dreizen (deceased). Together they built a family and shared a life rooted in dedication and deep affection. Maxine was the cherished mother of three children. She was preceded in death by her son Bradley and her daughter Suzanne. She is survived by her son Neil, as well as by many nieces and nephews.
Maxine lived most of her adult life in a modest home on Darcy Lane in Eastchester, NY., having lived there for over 65 years. She loved her home. She also cherished spending time with the many neighbors, a good many of whom she stayed in contact with as the years passed even if they moved away from the neighborhood.
Maxine spent the last five years at The Ambassador of Scarsdale assisted living facility. She was a vibrant member of that community, continually willing to learn and participate in the many activities available. She learned and enjoyed playing mahjong and canasta. She participated in the art activities. She attended the many and varied lectures and entertainment events. Perhaps, most of all, however, she relished spending time with her friends, her tablemates, and the staff at The Ambassador.
She will be remembered with gratitude and love, honored for the devoted way she lived and the lasting place she holds in the hearts of those who knew her.
