Miriam Bloom, 95, passed peacefully at The Ambassador of Scarsdale in White Plains on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Born Miriam Weinberg, she grew up in the same New Rochelle apartment building as her future husband, Burton Bloom, where the two played Monopoly with the other resident children. As they grew up, Mimi dated Burt as well as others, but he left for Florida as a young adult, and she realized that he was the one she truly loved. When they reunited for a New Year’s date, they bonded for a lifetime.
Mimi was an artist. She attended art school in NYC after high school and worked in watercolors, oil paint, pen-and-ink, charcoal, and later, pastels. Her inked watercolor drawings of women’s fashion in the 1940s were classics of the genre, and over her lifetime, she painted beautiful florals, portraits, and still life’s that are treasured by her family. As a young woman, Mimi was hired by Terrytoons Studios in New Rochelle, where she worked on the animated cartoon “Mighty Mouse,” but societal norms of that time forced her to leave when her first pregnancy became apparent. From that day forward, she became a homemaker and raised her three children with enthusiasm. Her artistic side, however, inspired the often bold, eclectic style of her home decorating and her taste in fashion.
To say that Mimi was generous would be an understatement, as she was known to offer most anything that was complemented by her family and friends. Her generosity extended to the organizations she joined and to those she supported. She painted Art Deco posters for Ridgeway Country Club and others for Temple Israel Center, made regular donations to many worthy causes, and (sometimes literally) was ready to give the shirt off her back to her friends and family. One of her favorite memories was when she volunteered to be a “reading grandma” in two local schools, where young students read to her for practice and encouragement. With her own children or others, she was always the best cheerleader one could have.
Her friends were an important part of her life. She enjoyed many social groups, from the Mr. & Mrs. Club at Temple Israel Center to golf at Ridgeway and Hampshire Country Clubs, from bowling leagues to the Westchester Dinner Theatre, and from Sapphire Timeshares in North Carolina to travel to many other countries. She loved dining, shopping, and traveling with her friends, and they loved her as well.
Her family was thrilled to celebrate her 70th Wedding Anniversary with Burt in 2022. She was surrounded by the love of many family members, including her late brother Arthur Winters and his wife Peggy. Her beloved husband Burt passed on June 14, 2025.
Mimi is survived by daughter Joanne Miller and son-in-law Wayne T. Miller of Woodstock, NY; daughter Linda Glauber of Berwyn, PA; son David Bloom and daughter-in-law Margaret Lillis Bloom of Oakton, VA; granddaughter Lauren Miller and husband Steven Campbell of Niskayuna, NY; granddaughter Carolyn Miller of Syracuse, NY; grandson John Glauber, wife Kendall and great-grandson Owen of Seattle, WA; grandson Kevin Glauber and wife Katrina Lastra of St. Louis, MO; grandson Jeffrey Glauber of West Chester, PA; granddaughter Alexandra Bloom of Denver, CO; granddaughter Rachel Bloom of Richmond, VA; grandson Liam Bloom of Blacksburg, VA; sister-in-law Peggy Winters, and many loved nephews and nieces.
Funeral services for Miriam will be held Wednesday January 7, 2026 11:00AM at The Riverside Memorial Chapel 100 Saw Mill River Rd, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
