“Ron,” “Dad,” “Grandpa” are just a few of the names that defined Ron Cohen of Ardsley, NY. Ron passed away on June 14, 2026 at the age of 79. Born in Brooklyn to Ben and Irene Cohen, Ron lived a life characterized by his sharp wit, diverse interests, resilience and, most of all, dedication to his family and friends.
Ron was an avid reader with a particular interest in history and found a new appreciation for novels later in life. He was also a daily reader of the newspaper, where he gravitated toward offbeat stories and found a quiet, intellectual, interest in the stories of others. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy! – especially with Brian and Meredith – and was a longtime fan of the Mets and Giants.
In 1966, Ron was drafted to Vietnam and bravely served his country for two years. After being honorably discharged, Ron began a career as a photographer, viewing the world through a creative lens. In 1972, he married his loving and devoted wife Susan, building a life together that spanned more than 50 years, including two children and three grandchildren.
In 2012, Ron received a lung transplant after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Despite his diagnosis, and the health issues that followed, Ron kept a positive outlook on life and never lost his sense of humor. He became a dedicated advocate for organ donation, helping others navigate the transplant process, encouraging registrations, and supporting other transplant recipients. After his transplant, Ron discovered the joy of road trips. He traveled across the East Coast and Midwest with Brian and Meredith to visit as many major league baseball stadiums as he could, creating memories for his children to cherish.
Ron is survived by his wife, Susan; two children, Brian Cohen (Jordan) and Meredith Cohen-Pilat (Alex); and three grandsons, Blake, Ari, and Elliot.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider registering as an organ donor or Donate to LiveOnNY Foundation.
