Mary F Witt

Mary was born on May 1, 1932, in West Bend, Wisconsin to parents Baltus and Elsie Rolfs. She attended Marquette University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1954. Mary was working for United Airlines at Chicago O’Hare Airport when she met her future husband John Witt. The couple married on April 18, 1959, at the St. John’s Cathedral in Milwaukee. After her marriage, she worked various jobs until they started a family and she stayed at home to raise their children. Eventually she decided to again pursue schooling at Northern Illinois University receiving a Master’s Degree in Special Education in 1985. Mary worked at the Pioneer Center where she worked with children and adults with severe disabilities. In 1989, when John retired, the couple moved to their home on Teal Lake in Spider Lake Township. Mary continued to fill her days volunteering many hours for Regional Hospice in Hayward, she was on staff at the Cable Natural History Museum, and served on various committees/commissions in Spider Lake including Zoning, Waterway, Elections, Fishing has No Boundaries, and the American Birkiebeiner. She greatly enjoyed traveling with her friends and also over 40 years of "Tin Tent" trips.

Mary is survived by her husband of 55 years, John, sons: Jerome (Tina) Witt of Spring Grove, IL, Terrence (Kathleen) Witt of Cambridge, WI, granddaughters: Brittany, Hailey, Serenity, Samantha, and sister Dorothy Stenz of Scottsdale, AZ.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, brother David Rolfs, and sister Sr. Elia.

A celebration of Mary Witt’s life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 2pm, at the Spider Lake Church with Pastor Gary Hilgendorf officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the Church from 1-2pm. Interment will follow at the Spider Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations in her honor to Regional Hospice in Hayward at 15910 W Company Lake Rd, Hayward, WI 54843, or to the Cable Natural History Museum at 13470 County Highway M, Cable, WI 54821.
