Adela is survived by her daughter Beverly Dragon-Corvera, son-in-law Cesar Corvera, step-daughter and son-in-law Donna and Ken Chisholm, grandson Matthew Newsom and his fiancé Danna Jatziry Malagon Araujo, great granddaughter Hannah Esther Newsom, brothers Ralph Garcia and Ricky Garcia and his wife Christina, brother-in-law Gilbert Calderon, sister-in-law Florence Garcia, sister in heart and spirit Elena Corvera and a host of nieces and nephews to include Gloria Garcia, Annette Calderon, Andrea Calderon, Angela Chang, Melissa Garcia, Christopher Garcia, Nicholas Garcia and Macee Garcia and all of their collective children along with cousins and dear lifelong friends and many more she collected along the way in her blessing filled life.
Adela is preceded in death by her husband Robert Oliver Dragon, sister Emily Calderon, brothers Ruben Garcia and Victor Garcia and her parents Esther and Jerry Garcia and her great grandson Joshua Benji Cabrera.
Adela was born on July 14, 1936 in Atarque, New Mexico to Jerry and Esther Garcia. She graduated from San Bernardino High School in California and began administrative work shortly thereafter at Norton Air Force Base. There she met her husband Robert Oliver Dragon and they were wed within a year. After Robert’s retirement from the Air Force the couple bought their first and only home in Moreno Valley where they both resided until their passing. They were lifelong members of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church.
Adela was a devoted wife deeply in love with her husband Robert and they shared a quiet life together. Both were happy and content needing nothing more than simple pleasures and each other. The happiest of times was after the birth of their first and only grandchild Matthew. Together they doted on Matthew and he brought them great joy. At the birth of her first great grandchild, Joshua Benji Cabrera, Adela found a renewed love of life and derived much happiness and laughter reminiscent of days gone by when Matthew was young. “A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds. Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it.” Proverbs 31: 10-11
Adela had great faith in God and prayed for her family and friends unceasingly, undoubtedly bringing much protection and blessings to them from above. Her heart was big and pure and she never ran across a person she did not like. She was unassuming, gentle, kind and always extended the benefit of the doubt in every and all situations. Many people crossed her path in life, many through her daughter and grandson. The lives she touched became enriched, some significantly, giving them new visions on life and prosperity. Her generosity and compassion was unsurpassed by none. “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughed at the time to come.” Proverbs 31:25
A funeral is scheduled for Monday September 27, 2021 10:00am at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church with burial to follow at Riverside National Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Arrowhead Medical Regional Center ICU and all the family and friends for continued prayers and support through this difficult time. May she rest in eternal peace and glory until we are all reunited with the circle being unbroken.
