Born on 24 October, 1932 in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico
Grew up as an orphan in Los Ranchos del Norte, in NorthEast Chihuahua.
Came to the U.S. At the age of 23, crossing the dessert until reaching Placentia, Ca.
Worked for 19 years at a chemical company in La Brea.
One day passing by the Placentia Free Methodist Church in a car with friends he heard a Hymn
“Hay Poder, Poder ...Sinigual Poder” and urged the driver to turn around, though criticized by his friends, he convinced him. My Father recounts... “I was so drunk that till this day I do not know who that pastor was”
That day he gave his life to Christ and His Calling.
He would also say, when I get to Heaven, the first thing I'm going to ask the Lord is...”Who t was hat pastor?”
He started his ministry in Placentia Free Methodist Church as a youth pastor then as an assistant pastor
Eventually he met a beautiful woman from Chino Church by the name of Ofelia Varela
he was so smittened by her and loved her truly that he proposed and they eventually married in 1960.
He loved the Lord so much, always reading and studying the Word of God, His faith was unwavering, his love for his people new know limits. His goal was to return to Chihuahua to share the Gospel and God's love.
His wish came through in 1971.
Was known as the Missionary of the Crossroads and just, el Hermano Torres
They served the Lord in the mission field in Chihuahua for 16 years... it was not always easy, but it was the best time of our lives. Establishing 12 preaching points and planting 2 churches.
Minimum 5 -7 services a week, transporting each day bretheren from all towns to and from each service.
My father loved to sing, worship could take up to 2 hours and his sermons up to 3 hours!
...and you know what? Nobody would get tired or bored!
After returning to the California in 1987, He pastored Redlands Free Methodist Church and the Perris Free Methodist Church and Camp....until he retired from the ministry after 61 years.
The last 10 years were not easy for him.. though going through brain surgery, organ failures,
and even dying in ICU and God granting us his return to us,,, my father was always steadfast in his Faith and love ,for his Lord and Savior, never forgetting that miraculous salvation and transformation
on that drunken day, in Placentia, when he came face to face with His Lord and Savior and surrendered
completely to Him and His calling.
My father left a legacy that has reached the third generation of the once children in his Sunday School classes.
He left an example of unwavering love, faith, commitment
...and for that I am so blessed
“touch through me, oh Lord...let my hands reach out to others,
Touch through me, Lord”
That was my Father
Until that day, Dad...wait for me.
