Carmeletta Lavette Transou-Johnson was born February 11, 1970 in Centreville, Illinois to Rosie Davis and Larry Transou (Deceased). She attended elementary and middle school in Centreville and graduated from East St. Louis High School. Carmeletta attended church regularly from an early age, and loved the Lord. Later as a young adult she decided to move her life to Louisiana.
Carmen as she was known to her parents, was very much a tomboy and loved to climb trees, and felt anything the boys can do, she could do better. As a young woman, whatever she set her mind to, she accomplished.
Carmeletta had her first child, Ivoree, and son, Jerrell, at Louisiana's Tulane University Hospital. She loved and adored her children so much, sometimes working two jobs in order to provide all the things that they would need. She and her children's father moved to California to follow their dreams in the 90's. In California, she continued her education and subsequently ended her relationship. She then met Joseph Miles, and to that union was born a son, Joe-Mar.
After several years of being single, she met Paul Johnson. After a whirlwind relationship, she decided to marry Paul and as Carmen would say "I know that's right". They married in 2008, in a civil ceremony, and in November of that same year, had a beautiful wedding and reception. Carmeletta loved education so much that she re-enrolled to earn her doctorate in theology. After several years of marriage she became ill and ultimately succumbed to her illness.
Carmeletta is survived by her husband, Paul, her four children; Ivoree (Tariq), Jarrell (Sabrina), Joe-Mar, step-children; Takisha, Paul Johnson IV, Corey, Sarina, grandchildren; Ariana, Jeremiah, Tariq, baby Elijah, and her mother, Rosie, brothers; Larry Jr., laJuan, Armond, sisters; Arnetta, Jeanetta Perkins, and a host of family and friends.
We love her and we will miss her forever.
