January 31, 1936 – May 27, 2026
Charles Manny Reeves, a man whose gentle and steady presence uplifted everyone around him, passed away peacefully at the age of 90. Born on January 31, 1936, in Santa Monica, California, to Charles and Florence Manny Reeves, he was the brother of Janette (deceased). His family moved to Hemet in 1943 when he was seven years old.
He married the love of his life, Carol Ann Bohmfalk, on January 21, 1956, and together they built a beautiful family and a marriage that spanned 70 years. One of Chuck’s favorite stories was: “When Carol and I got married, we decided that in our marriage, I would solve the big problems and she would solve the small problems. It just turned out there were never any big problems!”
Chuck was a devoted father to his two daughters, Lorraine Marie Reeves and Sharon Lynn Hayhoe, and a cherished uncle to his 12 nieces and nephews and 22 great-nieces and great-nephews. His family was the heart of his world, and he showed up for them with quiet strength and endless affection every single day.
Chuck was a highly praised basketball and baseball player at Hemet High School. His success led to an athletic scholarship to Pepperdine University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Education. Chuck embarked on a distinguished career in public education, starting as a teacher at West Jr. High. He advanced to roles as varsity basketball coach and activities director at Downey High School. His dedication and exemplary attitude soon led to leadership and administration roles, eventually returning to his hometown of Hemet. A pillar in the school community, he helped shape young minds with his positive approach and a belief in every student on campus. He was an ardent advocate for students in all extracurricular activities.
Golf was Chuck’s greatest passion. He played for 70 years and, true to his conscientious and honest nature, he never once took a gimme putt! Every ball was putted out with integrity, focus, and good sportsmanship. Whether on the course or off it, Chuck approached life the same way: straightforward, fair, and fully committed. His other hobbies brought him equal joy: fishing on peaceful lakes and creeks in California, Utah, Montana, and Wyoming; dancing with Carol (often turning the living room into their private ballroom); horse racing; and traveling with Carol to new places all over the world. He approached everything he did with enthusiasm and care.
Those who knew him will remember his many wonderful qualities: he was considerate and warm, positive and cheerful, honest and loyal, reliable and forthright. Chuck had a remarkable gift for remembering the name of everyone he encountered, making each person feel truly seen and valued.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, unwavering commitment, and the simple truth that a life well-lived is one filled with kindness, curiosity, and a good sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to share in his remarkable journey.
A Memorial Service will be held at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory, 1501 W Florida Ave, Hemet, CA 92543, US, on June 6, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
