Born Monday, August 9, 1948 in Los Angeles, California, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Thelma (Schlutz) Turner. As a young girl in Los Angeles, she honed her roller-skating skills and discovered her love of horses, teaching herself how to ride by watching Roy Rogers and Gene Autry on the television.
She moved to Chico, Ca her senior year of high school. Shortly after high school she worked at the telephone company - "Ma Bell" as she called it - and at Enloe Hospital
She married Carl Simmons in 1973 and this is when the real fun began. They continued to live in the Chico/Redding areas with their children and all the animals on the mini farm, just enough room for Cindy to make sure her fingers and toes could always be dirty. Due to Carl's career in law enforcement she finally came to the realization that "if you can't beat them, you might as well join them" and became a dispatcher for Shasta County Sheriff - a job she loved and talked about frequently.
Due to her health issues, they moved to Southern California for the climate - where she lived out the rest of her years spending time with family .This included passing down family traditions. The one that meant the most was her Christmas cookies. She taught the grandchildren the importance of making and decorating them for others to enjoy.
Cindy was a "shoot from the hip" type of person. You always knew what she thought and where you stood with her. Her family and friends were her calling, always making sure she was there for them, with support, caring and love. She ensured that her traits were shared and taught - love, humor, tenacity, ambition, honesty, integrity.
She was an amazing and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. Her kind soul, kinder heart and quick wit endeared her to everyone who had the amazing opportunity to meet her. She was loved so deeply and will be missed.
Surviving is her loving husband, Carl Simmons, son, O.D. Simmons and wife Lisa, daughter, Paige Simmons and husband Bryan, sister, Jodi Bechhold and husband Scott, brother Rick Turner; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild, 1 nephew and 3 nieces. Private services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the Anza Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 391355 Anza, CA 92539.
