Clarence Albert Nelson was born on November 29, 1946 in Los Angeles, CA to his late parents, Clear Nelson, Sr. and Sammie Lee Nelson. Al received his education in the Los Angeles Unified School District and graduated from David Starr Jordan High School.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. His spiritual growth continued at Bible Deliverance Church under the leadership of Bishop Milton Perry and Pastor Mozella Simms.
Al was employed as a Supervisor of Medical Records at Los Angeles General Hospital where he worked until retirement. He really loved his job and surely loved being the boss.
Al was a person you could talk to. He would listen and then give his advice. He was also a people person; he would talk to anyone. Conversation was always a two-way street with him.
Al loved to play the horses, where he thought he had figured out a strategy to strike it rich. Not quite so! He also loved to dress and be sharp when he stepped out, regardless of the occasion. He was a great dancer and also he was a pool shark. All of this supported his boastful personality as he just knew he was THE MAN!!! Most of all he was an excellent communicator. Al had wit about himself.
In 1973, within his first marriage, Al became a father to his only biological child, a baby girl, Marquétte (mar key tah) Lynn Nelson and accepted her sister, Tamara as his own. As Al matured in his role as a father, he had a big heart and was a nurturer and was a parental figure-head to a host of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love spread far and wide to those he came in close contact with.
Al and Barbara were united in 1995. They both truly loved and cherished one another, they were soulmates. They were so connected they would finish each other’s sentences, always happy and pleasant. Al was truly grateful for his wife, always saying “she is heaven sent!” Al is Barbara’s heart, as she has always stated, and “he is her dude!”
Al and Barbara attended Strong Tower Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor John Ooten. Al loved bible study, studying the word of God, and discussing the scriptures. He also loved to pray, giving God honor and praise.
Preceding him in death was his father and mother, brothers Frankie and Clear, Jr., sisters Dianna and Belinda. He leaves to cherish his loving wife Barbara and her daughter DeVonne Swift and her grandson Anthony, brothers James and Samuel, sister Judy, two aunts Velma Maxwell and Cleo Lacour (godmother), one uncle Lawrence Lacour, two daughters Marquétte and Tamara, and a host of in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and close family friends.
