

Clifford Eldon Phelps Jr., 82 of Hemet, California passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Hemet Valley Medical Center in Hemet, California. He was born on Monday, September 3, 1934, and was the son of the late Clifford and Leta (Byard) Phelps. Eldon was married to the love of his life, Gladys Phelps for over 59 wonderful years. Clifford " Eldon" Phelps Jr. was a proud member of the US Army and served from 1957 - 1959. Eldon retired from the City of Long Beach after working over 30 years in the Parks Department. Many times the family would visit relatives at El Casco Lake and fish from the shoreline. He loved horses and was known to visit Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar racetracks. Once retired Eldon and Gladys enjoyed traveling , visiting family and vacationing in Laughlin, NV. There, Gladys tried her luck at gambling and Eldon gambled but enjoyed people watching while strolling the Riverwalk. When at home, he liked to walk for exercise and he would receive friendly waves from the neighbors along his route. Eldon liked visiting friends at the Vista De Oro Clubhouse and played a bit of pool for fun. He also liked to read the sports section of the paper and followed many of the Southern California Teams. His family describe him as funny, a great trickster, and a very proud family man. He will be missed by those that knew him and loved him. Surviving is his wife Gladys Phelps: son, Richard Phelps; daughter Teri Quiamzon; grandson; Anthony Gastelum Sr; granddaughter Sara Quiamzon; and great grandson Anthony Gastelum Jr. Services will be private at a later date.
