

Cornelia Sweerus Mihaylo was born at her home in Wallington, New Jersey on June 22nd, 1915, the third of seven girls who would eventually be born to Anna Baker Sweerus and her husband Matthew. She married George Mihaylo, a native of Lisbon, Maine and a former Marine, in 1936, when she was 20, and then worked for several years as a clerk at the medical supply company Becton-Dickinson in East Rutherford, N.J. In 1944, "Connie", as she came to be called, and George headed West to California where George's twin brother, Jack, had already settled. George became a member of the Alhambra, CA police force, while Connie managed the couple's several rental properties and tended to household chores. She was an accomplished cook and baker and loved to can fruits and vegetables. In 1973, the couple retired to Hemet where Connie lived until declining health required that she move nearer to her niece, Barbara Bonnema Kaufman, in Woodland Hills. For the last seven years, she resided at the Carmel Board and Care in Sherman Oaks, CA.
Connie, who was raised in the Dutch Reformed Church, joined the (Mormon Church/Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints with her husband in 1951.
They were members of the Little Lake Ward in Hemet, which provided much support to Connie in her later years. Connie was preceded in death by her husband George in 1995, and by her older sister, Marjorie Briggs, and younger sisters Dorothy Sweerus, Marie Mae Bielecki, and Annette Bullis. She is survived by older sister Tess Bonnema and youngest sister Mattie Skelly, and several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by all for her friendly and cheerful attitude, her generosity to friends and family, and her deep appreciation of all those who helped her...
Interment will be private at Riverside National Cemetery with her husband.
