June 13, 1956 – October 6, 2026
With heavy hearts and immeasurable love, we celebrate the life and legacy of a remarkable woman, a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished Nana, a faithful woman of God, and a friend to so many. Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in knowing that her light will continue to shine through the lives she touched and the love she left behind.
Born on June 13, 1956, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Dorothy Mae & Joseph walker with a total of 9 brothers and sisters her being the youngest girl. She carried with her a spirit, strength, and determination that would guide her throughout her life. With nothing but a will and a way, she made her journey to California, where she built a life for herself alongside her beloved sisters, Dorothy and Gail. Through hard work, faith, and perseverance, she created a life filled with purpose, love, and unforgettable memories.
She was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Ronald Moore, in 1989. Together, they weathered life’s storms, celebrated its many blessings, and created a lifetime of cherished memories. Their union was a testament to the enduring power of love, friendship, and partnership. Through every season of life, they stood beside one another, building not only a marriage but a family and a legacy of love that will continue for generations. Though death has parted them in this life, the love they shared for over forty years will forever remain a beautiful part of her story.
Above all else, she was a mother and Nana in the truest sense of the words. She leaves behind her two loving children, LaShunte Williams and Janae Betterton , who were blessed to call her Mom. Through her children, she was blessed with five beautiful grandchildren: Marcus and Zya, children of Lashunte, and Cynkera, Cameron, and Cynkaija, children of Janae. Her family was one of her greatest treasures, and the love she poured into them will continue to live on for generations to come.
Throughout her life, she wore many hats and touched countless lives. She worked as a secretary, served as a caregiver to foster children in need, and dedicated herself to helping others. Her compassion extended beyond her own family, as she opened her heart to those who needed kindness, guidance, and care. She was a woman who knew how to show up for others, and she did so with a spirit that could never be forgotten. She was, without a doubt, one heck of a mother & grandmother.
For 22 years, she was a faithful member of Bread of Life, where her love for the Lord and her church community remained an important part of her life. Her faith was woven into who she was, and she found joy in worship, fellowship, and sharing her love with those around her. She always strived to be there for every time those church doors were open.
But if you knew her, you knew there was so much more to her than her titles and accomplishments. She was a woman who loved to talk, and a conversation with her could turn a stranger into a lifelong friend. She loved chatting with her people, playing spades, dancing, being the life of the party, telling jokes and, most importantly, spending time with her family. She knew how to bring life into a room, laughter into a conversation, and joy into the simplest moments. She had a personality that could not be duplicated and a presence that could never truly be replaced.
She was the kind of woman who made memories everywhere she went, she embraced life with a spirit that was entirely her own. Her stories, her laughter, her conversations, and even the little things that made her who she was will forever be treasured by those fortunate enough to have known her.
On October 6, at 3:33 a.m., she departed this earthly life, leaving behind a family and community who will forever carry her in their hearts. Though we wish we could have had one more time, we are grateful for every moment, every lesson, every laugh, and every memory she gifted us.
And now, we see her for the beautiful star in the sky, shining brightly for her family to see—a heavenly reminder that she has made it to the gates and that her light will never be lost.
When we look up at the night sky, we will remember her strength, her joy, her faith, and the love she gave so freely. Though we can no longer hear her voice or hold her close, we will find pieces of her in the stories we tell, the traditions we carry on, and the love that continues to bind our family together.
Her earthly journey may have come to an end, but her legacy lives on in her husband, her children, her grandchildren, her sisters & brothers, nieces and nephews, church family; cousins, friends, and every single life she truly touched. She leaves behind a love that death cannot erase, memories that time cannot take away, and a light that will continue to shine long after this day.
She was loved deeply, she lived boldly, she laughed loudly, she loved her family fiercely, and she will be missed beyond words.
Keep shining down on us. Save us a seat at the table, keep your dancing shoes ready, and know that your family will carry your love with us every single day.
Until we meet again, you will forever be our star in the sky.
Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our Nana. ❤️
