Arrived 16 January 1994
Departed 27 February 2020
With the utmost sorrow we announce that Dalwin-Jamel Teodosio Alston, age 26 and beloved son,
brother, family member and friend passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020, the day his wish finally
came true. He was able to leave the hospital after a 30 day plus stay due to the approval for transport by
hospice to our home.
He arrived roughly around 4:00 PM and went on to be with the Lord after a lengthy bout with Stage IV
Colon Cancer just shortly before 9:00 PM the same evening.
Dalwin, most often referred to as Jamel, was truly a blessing to all who came across him despite his brave
battle with Stage IV Colon Cancer. Sharing his progress with an ever growing number of people on social
media, he inspired more than can be numbered with his, “We can beat this disease attitude.” At one point,
he received a 95% cancer free report; however, due to complications, it unfortunately came back with
strength. Regardless of the news, Jamel fought extremely hard with a contagious, uplifting positive
attitude that brought a smile to all.
Jamel was born January 16, 1994 in Honolulu, Hawaii to mother, Josie, and father, Dalwin L. Alston.
Later they divorced and Jeffery A. Howard married his mother and together they had his younger sister,
Kaelyn and shortly after moved to California.
His younger brother Joshua Howard was also then born in California.
Jamel excelled in school and managed to be accepted to the University of Irvine where he completed one
year of education, but then decided to work full time and truly go after his dream which was to dance.
The following is by his boss and also the founder of his Go Fund Me page who was a true blessing to
Jamel and remains one to his family:
“There are two things Jamel Teodosio Alston is known for, dancing and his brilliant and easy smile.
Okay, maybe his hair.
Well, a few months ago, Jamel’s smile got a little strained as he started noticing symptoms. He went to
the doctors and ran some tests, and then some more tests, and then finally they had an answer, but it was
not an answer that any 25 year old expects.
Jamel was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer, and it had spread to his stomach, liver and various
other parts of his body.
Now Jamel has begun his battle with cancer, and it really *is* a battle. Cancer treatment is a long and
slow process that takes its toll on every aspect of a person’s life and their loved ones, and no one can face
it alone.
The fund is to help Jamel break his lease, help pay for treatment, and if we do well enough, help pay for
the hundreds of little things no one thinks about until they or a loved one is going through treatment.
Jamel is a wonderful guy. He is compassionate and caring. Creative and curious. Always the first to jump
up and help another. Always there for those around him. Patient and kind, even when the world is
frustrating. It’s been said many times that, ’it’s just impossible not to like Jamel.‘ And it’s true.
A lot of us have been wishing for a way to help. Here is one way. Let’s help our colleague. Let’s help
our teammate. Let’s help our friend. Let’s help Jamel get back to dancing again.”

In summation Jamel is dearly missed by all his family, dance team members, colleagues and friends.
Besides his parents, Jamel leaves behind his sister Kaelyn Clay Jessica Teodosio Howard, brother Joshua
Allen Teodosio Howard, sister Kirstyn Miyan Alston, brother Izreil Mehkai Alston, grandmother Patricia
Fortune, grandmother Alice R. Howard, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews too
numerous to mention.
A memorial service will be held March 12, 2020 at Miller-Jones Mortuary and Crematory, 26855-A
Jefferson Avenue, Murrieta, CA 92562, phone number 951-698-6400 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
His burial will be private.
Those who choose to give a gift to honor Jamel are asked to send contributions in his name to the cancer
fighting charity of your choice.
