

Doris May Estrada passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 in Hemet, California; she was born on August 20, 1923 in Merchantville, New Jersey. She was raised in Columbus, Ohio where she graduated from North High School at the age of 16 and immediately went to work as a Secretary in the Casualty Insurance field. Doris moved to California in the 1940's and continued her work in the Insurance field for over 45 years. In addition to working in Insurance, she was also a public stenographer.
In her early years, Doris played volleyball and was involved with women's teams, even for several years after she graduated. She loved music, playing piano, singing and dancing. Doris had social networks even before the internet and computers were around!
In the 1960's, Doris was President of the American Legion Auxiliary in the 18th District and enjoyed many years of service.
Doris retired at 63 and took up bowling. She and her husband of over 40 years, John, enjoyed traveling and drove all the way to Michigan to visit with her brother Edwin and his wife Jeanne.
Faith was very important to Doris. She was a member at the Immanuel Baptist Church for over 20 years.
Doris's evenings were often spent watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and the Lawrence Welk Show.
Family was extremely important to Doris. Her husband, John, and her family, gave her the best of care after she survived breast cancer.
She planned her 90th birthday party at "The Plantation" where she lived for many years, but ultimately, the party was held at her daughter Sandy's house in Redlands, and was hosted by her daughter Sandy and her son David.
Doris is survived by her wonderful daughter, Sandy Gray, and devoted son David Thompson, Steve Estrada and Mike Estrada, 7 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
