

Edward Buford McElyea, lovingly known as Ed, Uncle B, or Papa Mac, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, in Murrieta, California, at the age of 95. He was a longtime resident of Hemet, California.
Edward was born on December 7, 1930, in Deport, Texas, to Rupert and Mamie McElyea. As a young man, he worked in many trades, including selling ice cream, magazines, and assisting in the construction of the Davis Dam. He later dedicated 32 years of service to Kaiser Steel before opening his own truck customizing business.
Edward was a devoted husband, family man, and loyal friend. Known for his storytelling, he brought joy and laughter to those around him. He embraced life fully and enjoyed many hobbies, including fishing, dancing, gardening, camping, hunting, bowling, scrapping, coaching, and playing pool.
He was a man of faith and will be remembered for his nonjudgmental nature, dependability, thoughtfulness, and unwavering positive attitude.
Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lila Eileen McElyea, and his son, Robert Edward McElyea. He is survived by his daughters, Lynda Sustarich and Susan McQuinn; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Miller-Jones Mortuary in Hemet, CA
