He was born on Saturday, March 4, 1944, to his proud parents, Abelardo and Lourdes Bonoan Carluen, in the city of Manila, in the Philippines.
Elias was a funny, intelligent yet stubborn man. His humor made it easy for him to make good and lifelong friendships. His intelligence and stubbornness afforded him the ability to go to college, acquire a doctorate degree in medicine and open and maintain a private practice as a physician for over 20 years. The accomplishment that Elias was most proud of was his family. Elias met and married the love of his life Rebecca Arreza. They experienced almost 42 years of marital bliss before his passing. They were able to raise five children together, and with their father and mother as examples, their children started families of their own. Elias was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Birthdays and holidays were always a treat for Elias because his family would have another opportunity to gather and be together. Elias was also an avid gardener who loved animals, especially his dogs. His family will never forget his voice that accompanied his words whenever something was happening or about to happen, "Oh Boy"!
Elias leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Rebecca Carluen, daughter, Marilou Lao, son, Elvin Carluen, daughter, Shahenne Carluen, daughter, Melissa Carluen, daughter, Valerie Carluen and seven grand-children.
Elias will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. Remembering him for the light, life and laughter he brought into this world.
