Gay was born on August 28,1934 in San Francisco, CA. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Weatherwax and the late Leola Davis Weatherwax. Gay was a woman of great Christian faith. She was a member of Hemet United Methodist Church for many years & was active as a Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, and in the women's fellowship groups. She read her well worn " Through the Bible in a Year" & "Jesus Calling" daily.
She was an escrow officer for Hemet Escrow and Chicago Title in San Diego for over 35 years. Her children recall her love of the TV show Jeopardy & her amazing knowledge and ability to ask so many of the questions correctly. She also worked crossword puzzles daily & loved history, museums, & art galleries. Some of her family's best memories involve going to & talking about these subjects & places.
Gay also loved to read, quilt, share stories, travel, and spend time with her family. Gay traveled far and wide, to places like Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, Europe & Africa, just to name a few. She enjoyed many special times hiking & camping with family & friends at the beach, in the mountains & at many state & national parks.
Gay was an avid supporter of her family's school activities. While they were in elementary school, she was often "room mother." When they were older she attended their sporting events enthusiastically cheering on all her children and grandchildren's teams!
Nobody was a stranger to Gay. Every where she went, she left friends behind. She truly exemplified & demonstrated that, " We meet no ordinary people in our lives." C.S. Lewis.
Gay is survived by her children: Colleen Sanden (Nick), Gayle Tackett(Scott), Tami Krumheuer (Mike), and Scott Cox (Angelina); siblings: Cathy Hopkins, Bonnie Blumenfeld and True Weatherwax; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren (2 more to arrive soon.) She is preceded in death by husbands Lyle Cox & Dallas Mathes, daughters Lori Shields and Shawn Mathes, grandson Matthew Sanden, & great-grandson Davis Erickson.
