

Gene Weston Cheney, 78, of Hemet California died November 19, 2015. He was born in Los Angeles, the only son of Weston and Joan (Donswyk). He was educated in the Los Angeles public schools. He went on to receive his BVE from California State University, Long Beach.
In 1963 he was married to Juanita (West) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Los Angeles temple. They have six children.
Mr. Cheney retired from teaching High School after 25 years in Moreno Valley in 1997. He was previously employed by Rockwell International, Aerospace Division and was a technical writer supporting the Apollo missions. Gene was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; he served as Genealogical Director of the Hemet Family History Center for 30 years and as a temple worker for over 17 years. He was an active member of Toastmasters for many years. Gene also served a church mission in the Netherlands and mulitple missions in California. After retiring Gene continued to lecture at Genealogical seminars and teach family history research at Mt. San Jacinto College.
He leaves his beloved wife Juanita; his daughter Carolyn Cheney of Branchburg, NJ, and a daughter Elizabeth Hottell and her husband Skeeter of Gillette, WY. He leaves a son David and his wife Rebecca Cheney of Martinez, CA, a son Aaron and his wife Faline Cheney of Enoch, UT, a daughter Catherine Miller of Gilette, WY and a son Stephen and his wife Gabrielle Cheney of El Paso, TX. He also leaves behind a sister Loretta Maughan and niece Sharyn Maughan of St. George, UT.
Gene has 22 grandchildren including, Ashley Graff, Alyssa Terry, Jim Hottell, Judy Cederholm, Dana Miller, Morgan, Spencer, Harrison, Parker, Hamilton, Walker, Arrington, Bailey, Cadence, Grace, Lily, Hadley, Ida, Vienna, Gabriel, Evan, and Shelby Cheney.
He has 7 great-grandchildren, Tristan Cochrane, Seamus Graff, Harley, Haddie, Hayden Hottell, Jordi, and Dakota Cederholm.
