George Henry Burt was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, on March 3, 1928, to George Milo Burt and Harriet Ellen Crouch Burt. He was the fourteenth of sixteen children. He grew up helping to farm the land: his favorite story was about earning money by keeping the bean patch free of weeds.
At the age of eight, George lost his father. To make ends meet, George was sent to live with several relatives and friends including his favorite sister, Grace, and his cousin, Jay. George’s mother died when he was sixteen, and he joined the Navy a year later. The Navy sent George to electronics school in Oakland, California, where he met his future bride, Marilyn Robison, at a Bible study he attended. After a three-year tour in the Navy, they married on April 23, 1949, and settled in Oakland, where George became a church pastor and where their two oldest children, Esther and Lois Burt, were born. In 1954, George moved his family to Sacramento, where George had secured a position as a missile inspector at Aerojet General Corporation, and where his two youngest children, Mary and Michael Burt, were born.
In 1967, George was hired by Northrup Corporation in Hawthorne, California, and he moved his family to southern California. Next, he moved on to work at Hughes Aircraft, and he retired after working there for many years. Not one to sit still for long, George decided to go back to work for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing in Long Beach, and he worked there until he retired for the second time in 1995. George enjoyed his job working in the aircraft manufacturing industry and developed a reputation for integrity, diligence, and thoroughness.
George and his wife Marilyn eventually retired to Menifee, California, and lived there until Marilyn’s passing in March 2009. George then moved to Sun City, California, where he passed away quietly on August 16, 2019, at the age of 91. He is survived by his four children, Lois Parr, Esther Zearing, Mary Henry, and Michael Burt. He is also survived by ten of his eleven grandchildren, as well as his seventeen great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Marilyn, and his granddaughter, Danielle.
George loved attending Menifee Bible Church where he enjoyed singing at church and socializing with friends. He was also an excellent piano player. He liked being outdoors and working on his yard. He was proud of America and he created a flag pole that did not wrap up in the wind, installing the pole on many of his neighbors houses. He loved to tell a good joke, and he will be greatly missed by those around him.
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Psalm 4:8
