George served our Country in World War II in the US Navy and was a proud veteran. He was extremely patriotic and loved our Country. George was a retired employee from the City of Los Angeles. He retired after 35 years as a Superintendent for the Los Angeles Road and Asphalt Department. He was well respected, won awards for his dedicated service, and even won an award for chasing down a suspect who ran from a crime scene and holding him down until the police came.
After losing his wife of 49 wonderful years, Lila, George was fortunate to find another lovely woman by the name of Ruth. He and Ruth were married for 20 blessed years.
It was well-known that George was a baseball fan. In particular, George loved the California Angels. He was dedicated to his church, First Baptist, and lived his life to please his God. He was a woodcrafter. In particular, he enjoyed building and hand crafting wood models of John Deere Tractors & Trucks. He enjoyed building these models and selling them to raise funds at Church fairs and fund raising events and especially sharing them with his great grandchildren. He loved to bowl and he and Ruth belonged to a Bowling League.
His family describes "Papa" as hardworking, gentle, extremely kind, genuine and honorable. His favorite sayings included, "Fair de Midland" and "I'll tell you what!!!"
He will be greatly missed but forever loved by his wife, Ruth, and his son Jim and spouse, Margaret. To mourn his passing but cherish their memories with him will be all his great grandchildren and his granddaughters; Jamie and Robyn who helped Ruth care for Papa during the last days of his life.
George H. Wilson touched many lives and will be truly missed by a host of extended family members and friends and all those who were honored to know him and who loved him.
