

Gloria Ann Doro, 86, of Hemet, California passed away on February 6, 2019, at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born June 30, 1932 in Wichita, KS to the late James and Dorothy Henley. Gloria worked alongside her father in their grocery store, Doro’s Chalet, until 1972, when she joined the US Postal Service. She served for 25 years, 21 of them most notably as Postmaster of the Mountain Center Post Office before retiring. Gloria was very active in softball, playing in Idyllwild, CA to her 15 years with Valley Wide Senior Softball as the only female participating in the Senior Men’s league. She was MVP of the Blue Diamonds, a Senior women’s softball team that won silver in the 1999 National Senior games in Orlando, FL. An active participant in the Senior Olympics, Gloria garnered numerous gold medals in Track and Field and weightlifting, qualifying several times for national participation. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving the region since 2014. She loved trips taken with the whole family to the beach in San Clemente, then later trips across the Southwest that included boating, waterskiing, and fishing. Her family describe her as a fiercely competitive athlete, an animal lover, mentor and nurturing soul who gave much to everyone without asking for anything in return. Surviving are her six daughters, Debbie McGary and husband John, Coni Baird, Jamie Nyswonger, Lori Doro, Sherry Doro, and Shelly Thompson; brother Gail Henley, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many extended family and friends.
