Born in Pihuamo, Jalisco, Mexico on December 12th 1943 Lupe migrated to Hemet, California in 1973 in pursuit of the American Dream. Lupe began work in the 1970s at The Howard Rose Company where his passion for horticulture and landscaping evolved into a very rewarding 49-year career in landscaping, which he was very proud of. Most everyone who grew up in Hemet and San Jacinto have at some point seen his red and cream colored 1979 Ford F150 pickup truck pulling a sturdy white trailer filled with his collection of landscaping tools. He left his house each morning at 6:23am to begin his route, he did this for nearly 50 years. Ask anyone who knew him or came into contact with him and they will agree that he overflowed with kindest and generosity.
If you asked Lupe, his greatest accomplishment was being able to help the many members of his family in any way possible. Lupe met his wife Diana when they were set up on a blind date by Diana’s sister and brother in law. Lupe did not speak English and Diana did not speak Spanish at that time, it was definitely love at first site as small talk took the back seat.
Lupe is survived by his son Andrew Cortez, brothers Tobias, Miguel and Jesus and sisters Maria, Chona, Teresa, Socorro, and Ramona. He was preceded in death by his wife Diana Cortez, his parents Guadalupe Sr. and Seledona, brothers Jose, Rafael and Gabriel.
