Harold James Hedge, born May 6, 1944 in Dickinson North Dakota was the son of Warren and Almeda Hedge. He was one of two children they had. He was five years younger than his brother Don. His family moved to San Diego in the 1960's. He helped his parents at their family-run glass shop. He met Carol Estes in 1967 and the two later married on September 5, 1974 in a Las Vegas wedding chapel. Harold had a prosperous job with Solar Turbines, where he worked as a machinist for the innovative aircraft company before retiring early. Harold and Carol moved to a newer, more rural and suburban area just north west of San Diego called Poway for a short time before they moved to Gate, Oklahoma for about four months where they had a pet rabbit named Benny. Harold enjoyed dogs as well as rabbits and had a husky puppy while still living in San Diego.
They returned to San Diego and he assisted Carol managing apartments on Laurel Street till 1982. Harold and Carol's much anticipated son John was born in December of 1979. They moved to La Mesa for a short while and then they returned to Poway for over 10 years managing apartments. Harold enjoyed going out for coffee and smoking as well as restoring old cars and making jewelry that often included turquoise. He also loved going to the local casinos and playing bingo with his wife and met a lot of people when they went.
They did relocate to another apartment in Oceanside in the summer of 2004. The same year his wife Carol passed away in October. Harold lived there until 2008, but did not leave before making many close friendships. He moved so that he could purchase a house. John found a great fixer-upper for his father in Hemet on Franklin Street where he lived the rest of his life. John lived there with his father until 2013 before he moved to Palm Springs. John helped his father with many projects that made it a home and learned so much from his father. Harold enjoyed Hemet and made more friends as he did wherever he went.
Harold learned he had lung cancer and passed away less than two months later in his home with his son on May 20, 2019. He is survived by: son John Hedge of Palm Springs, CA, nephew Don Hedge of Redding, CA, sister-in-law Kay Olivier and brother-in-law Darren Olivier of Murrieta, CA, girlfriend Geneva Smith of Hemet, CA and his beloved dogs Coco and Sparky.
