Harold Augustus Molt Jr.

Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, Harold attended public school and completed his high school education later as an Adult learner. He was at times a resident of California, Alaska and Hawaii until finally returning to New York later in life. Harold held many jobs during his lifetime including running his own Paint contracting and Highway striping businesses, Private Detective, and certified Substance Abuse Counselor. He especially loved fishing, playing poker, riding his motorcycle, making jewelry and spending time with close friends and relatives involved in traditional Native Culture.

Harold was an active member of the Christian Church in early life and later participated in the Native American Church eventually becoming a member of the Kanienkehaka (Mohawk Nation) Kanonhsesne (Longhouse), in Akwesanse where he lived for the last 20 plus years of his life.

Harold was preceded in death by his older brother Charles Molt, his Sister Jeannie Molt, his Mother Emma Jean Northcoat and his Father Harold Molt Sr. He survived by his former spouse Gladys Barreras, and children James Harold Molt, Jeremy Augustus Molt, Lanette Jean Molt, his grandchildren Jordan James Molt, Toure Williams, Sterling Baldwin, Tyler Magpie Molt, Maya Alicia Molt, Jeremiah Johnson, Josiah Johnson, Jordan Johnson and Great Granddaughter Josephine Rae Molt.

Harold “Kanakwiio” Molt will always be remembered for his infectious laughter, his adventurous spirit and steadfast commitment to social Justice and advocacy for Native Rights.
