Uncle Harvey held a very special place in my and Cindy’s hearts. He was a kind and generous man who deeply loved the Lord and others. I fondly remember his visits, during which he generously gifted me books to build my library when I was a new pastor. He also provided me with computer parts, which he taught me how to assemble. This knowledge allowed me to build and sell these computers to college students and even the college itself, helping us make ends meet during a challenging time when my family needed financial support with the arrival of newborn twins. As a teenager, I recall him showing me his basketball skills and shooting hoops with me whenever he visited us in Oklahoma City.

As I grew older, Uncle Harvey consistently inquired about my well-being and offered encouraging words. I will deeply miss him. I know he is now celebrating in heaven, and I am hopeful that we will reunite with him someday!

I have known Harvey all my life.  A quiet man with a quick wit, full of knowledge, and faithful.  He knew who he was, and walked accordingly.  I am thankful for his loyalty and loving kindness to others. For me, it was my Dad, and Mary.  He was very kind, and helpful.  There were others, many others.  He walked his path in Christ and showed us what a faithful walk looks like.  All of our paths are distinctive and reflect a person's faith, commitment and ability to love. Again I am thankful for my uncle Harvey.  I saw him from a distance, Mainly when I was younger, I remember his laugh. My sincerest prayer for his family and loved ones is that you find peace and rely on God's love for you.

Uncle Harvey was good to us.  When my Dad Roy was divorced and transferred his job, he lived with Harvey’s family for a year.  I stayed that summer.  I realized later how generous it was to let Dad’s kids visit too.  Harvey and Lucille had a daughter and his son was on the way, I think.  Memory a little fuzzy.  They never made us feel like it was an imposition, they were very gracious.  Looking back now, I realize that it was a big deal for someone to do that.  Not long after, Harvey moved to Kansas to attend the Nazarene seminary and sold his house to my Dad.  I can’t remember all of Harvey’s moves, but in my mind he was the uncle with itchy feet.  He liked to travel.  Jump ahead about 40 years when Dad’s Alzheimer’s became hard.   By then, Harvey and his wife Natasha were in southern California but would visit Dad and Mary in the north.  Harvey volunteered to help with shopping or fixing computers.  He would look for a need and fill it.

I saw more of Harvey and Natasha after I moved to Temecula in 2017, about 30 minutes from Hemet.  For a year I had not even unpacked my pots and pans (because I intended to remodel soon, which I still haven’t done!)  When I was hit by a car and in a wheelchair, Harvey and Natasha unpacked and organized my kitchen to make it easier for me to fix meals at home.  (I healed and am doing well.)  We enjoyed lunches at Rosa’s cafe in Temecula.  I learned some family history from him.  Just a couple years ago, when Harvey was 92, I went to Hemet to have lunch with him when Natasha was out of town.  I lost the gate code, so Harvey said he will just come out to the gate.  A minute later I saw a man going out for a run.  As he got closer I thought that can’t be Harvey.  It was.  Running to the gate.
