He was born in Dahanu, India to Kantaben and Motibhai Patel on April 7, 1962. He attended a boarding school and was a stand out in athletics and academics. After losing his parents at an early age, he attended Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics and began his career as a cost accountant. After working and teaching at a local college, he moved to the United States in 1990. He earned his MBA from USC.
A few years after marrying his wife Bharti Patel in 1992, he moved to Hemet, California and started business and eventually his own family. He spent the rest of his time surrounding himself with his wife and two children and good people who became his extended family.
