

Hubert Lacy Causey, 78, of Canyon Lake, Ca., died at his home on November 11, Veterans Day, following a lengthy illness. He was the son of H. B. (Pete) Causey and Lilyan (Lacy) Causey. He was also the grandson of W. M. (Bill) Lacy, who was creator and long-time editor of the Pike County Herald newspaper.
Mr. Causey was the brother of current Gazette columnist, Judy Causey Love.
Lacy was born in McComb, Miss., on December 11, 1937, at McComb Infirmary and grew up in Magnolia and Liberty. While attending Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi , Lacy considered going into the ministry. He He and two friends traveled throughout Europe witnessing to people. But, after graduating, Lacy decided to take a different path and he joined the United States Marine Corps. After serving for twenty years, during which time he completed two tours in Vietnam, Lt. Col. Causey retired from the military with many awards and medals, including the Bronze Star. Following his retirement, he worked for Bianchi International in Temecula, California for many years.
Lacy loved to play golf and was very active in his church, Sun City United Methodist Church in Sun City, Ca. He served in many capacities there, including the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee as well as assisting the Pastor, Rev. Rex Wignall with Bible Study classes.
He married Nancy Lee Christianson of Fairhope, Al., in 1961 and they had four sons. Over the years, due to his military service, they moved around the country from Virginia to Minnesota then finally settled in Southern California.
Lt. Col. Causey was a pilot, certified flight instructor, and a member of the Airborne Association, MACC, and MATCU. He also was a member of the PiKappa Alpha Fraternity and Mensa.
He was laid to rest with full military honors at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Ca.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy, his sons Christopher (Tannis), Stephen, Robin Wesley (Mary Frances) and John (Roni), four grandsons and one granddaughter; and his sister Judy Love. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Will Causey.
