Ida Lee (Young) Lucas was born August 30, 1937 in Calhoun, Louisiana to Ananias "Rock" Young and Mattie Lee DeBuwr Young (both preceding her in death.) She was one of six children. Ida accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.
In 1955, after completing high school at Central High School in Calhoun, Louisiana Ida journeyed to Monroe, Louisiana, Ida found employment as a physical therapist in Monroe, LA. Later she was employed as a nurse's aid at St. Francis Hospital.
In January 1958, she met a young Airman First Class, Ellsworth J. Lucas Jr.(Luke), who has just returned from Okinawa. After a short courtship, Ellsworth headed to a new assignment at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana and Ida moved to California to live with relatives. About a year later Airman Lucas was transferred to Hamilton Air Force Base, Novato, Ca. Ida was surprised to find Airman Lucas knocking at her door for courtship.
In 1959, Ida Lee and Airman Lucas were married on their birthday, August 30.( Yes, they shared the same birthday !!!) A year later, she accompanied her husband to Santa Monica, California for his next assignment where they spent happy and fruitful years. In 1964 Military orders sent the family overseas in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Ida was extremely hard working and fully dedicated with raising her son's. She worked as a sales clerk at the Base Exchange in Germany but remained very involved in her children's youth activities and also reserved time to participate in the Order of Eastern Star. After Germany Ida's husband and the family were transferred to Kansas City, MO (Richards Gebaur AFB), Novato California (Hamilton AFB), Highland California (Norton AFB), Sacramento California (Mather AFB), and Dayton Ohio (Wright Patterson AFB). During Luke's various work assignments Ida remained devoted to her family and steadfast to Gods unchanging hand.
In 1978, Ida's husband, Master Sergeant Lucas, retired and the family returned to Highland California. Upon returning to California Ida resumed her work at San Bernardino County Hospital as a Burn Technician.
In 1986, she jointed St. Paul A.M.E Church where she served as a church stewardess. After moving to Riverside County in 2013, she transferred her membership to Bethel AME in Perris California where she continued her devotion as Church stewardess until she went home to be the Lord.
Ida's favorite past-times were cooking Sunday dinner for her sons and their families, spoiling her grandchildren, reading, sewing, playing games (bingo, phase 10, and bumpkis, spades, bunko), word searches, and figuring out sudoku
Preceding her in death was her husband Ellsworth Jr., 1 son- Charles E. Lucas, 1 grandson - Charles Lucas Jr. and 4 brothers- Ananias, Milton Young, Johnny B, and James aka"Sam".
Ida Lee went home on the evening of April 26th to be with the Lord leaving to Love, laugh, and cherish her memory, three sons: Ellsworth lll "Luke" (Hemali) of Corona, CA ; Melvin (Sherri) of Moreno Valley, CA; John (Vivian) of Norco, CA; dearly loved sister, Lelia Mae Gilkey of Oakland, CA,: four sister-in-laws Frances Addison (John) of Mitchellville, Md.; Florence Vines of Washington, D.C.; Lillie Mae Frye of Hill Crest Heights, Md., Magdalean Young of West Monroe, LA; four grandsons: Marques, Brandon, Rico, Zackery, and Melvin Il; five granddaughters: Laiishana, Larissa, Sara, Brittanee , and Alexis, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of loving relatives, devoted church family, and loyal friends.
