

James was the third of six children. James moved to California to be with his family at an early age. James graduated from Alain Leroy Locke High School in Los Angeles, California in 1970.
After graduation James enlisted in the United States Army where he received honorable discharge due to his illness. James graduated from ITT Technical School in Computer Science. James worked for the United States Postal Service where he retired after 30 years of service in 2010. He received special achievement award in July 2001 in recognition of exceptional performance. Also, In June 2004 received silver pin and recognition for 25 years of service and in November 2004 he received the United States Postal Service Certificate of Appreciation award.
After retirement, James devoted his life to family, friends, and the race track.
James leaves to celebrate his life to the following: his devoted wife Resia Donlow of Moreno Valley, Ca; one brother Lloyd Donlow of Moreno Valley, CA; three sisters Deborah Givens (Husband: LaFrance) of San Jacinto, CA; Beverly Reeves of San Jacinto, CA and Bridgette Harris of Gardena, CA. James leaves three children: Soraya Donlow (Joseph) of Moreno Valley, CA; Laneesha Garden-Donlow (Alvin) of Perris, CA. Tamio Donlow (preceeds in his death). Grandchildren: Tamioa Donlow of Long Beach, CA; Taylor Franklin of San Diego, CA; Sir Edward and Prynceton Haskins of Perris, CA; Arron and Carter Williams of Moreno Valley, CA; and Tori and Joe Franklin of Gainesville, Texas. Great Grandchildren: Khamri and Kimoni "Goldie" Richardson of Long Beach, CA. A host of friends and relatives that sincerely loved him.
