

He was born Sunday, October 25, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Abraham and Yetta Diener. Joel entered the air force at an early age of 22. While in New York, he went on a blind date with a young beautiful lady, Carol Mendelsohn, only 17 years old at the time, who he married shortly after. While serving in the Airforce as a medic in Labador. Joel would use his artistic given talent to draw portraits of the other service men’s girlfriends and wives. He also delivered a baby while in the air on a plane which was quite remarkable as well as unforgettable. Even though Joel lost part of his hearing during serving in the military and was legally blind, that did not hold Joel back from doing what he loved and enjoyed most, playing poker with his group of buddies at the lodge and he began writing a book on his ancestry. Through the years he worked for an executive recruiting company, worked in real state with his beautiful bride and volunteered for the active Jewish war veterans. Joel was strong and courageous, stubborn as well as analytical, a problem solver and creative thinker. He would always have a methodical solution to any problem that was brought to his attention. Joel loved his family dearly, his dedicated dog, “Charlie”, his daughter Penni, and his son Lance. Joel will be truly missed by all who loved him. Surviving is his lovely wife, Carol Diener, son, Lance Diener (Vicky), daughter, Penni Gruenberg, sister, Paula Schwartzberg (Stanley) and sister-in-law, Jeanne Ryan (Chuck); three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother, Sheldon Diener, sister-in-law, Arlene Diener, and niece, Carrie Diener.
A Funeral service will be held at 9:45 AM on Friday at Riverside National Cemetery located at 22495 Van Buren Boulevard Riverside, California 92518. Interment will be in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.
