John Carl Leis, 90 of Hemet, CA. passed away peacefully on February 10, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He has left us to be with his beloved wife, Colleen Leis, to be buried at Riverside National Cemetery.
He was born February 17, 1923 in Homestead, Pennsylvania, son of the late Joseph and Cecilia Leis. He enlisted in the United Marine Corp. in 1942. He participated in the consolidation of the Solomon Islands (Guadalcanal) and in action against the Japanese on Okinawa during WWII. Upon return he was stationed in California and married his hometown sweetheart, Colleen in 1945. John and Colleen moved to Whittier in 1951 where they lived for 40 years. John and Colleen were married for 60 years until her death in 2006.
John was a member of the Pipefitters Union for over 70 years. Upon retirement, John and Colleen moved to Hemet where they spent their remaining years.
John is survived by his son Jack and three daughters Kathleen Bodmer (Jerry) of Huntington beach, Monica MacAuley (Doug) of Upland and Nancy Phillips (Forrest) of Murrieta. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
