John "Jackie" Alexander Thompson passed away at home in Lake Riverside Estates in the city of Aguanga, California on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. He was born on Friday, September 13, 1940 to parents; John and Marjorie Thompson in Kitchener Ontario, Canada.
John Thompson spent his childhood years in Montebello, California, where he was a rambunctious child that enjoyed teasing his sisters, Peggy and Deborah. John was a man with many interests. He loved all sports. Golf, football, and Nascar were among his favorites. He also liked hockey and was very excited about the Kings winning this year. In particular, he was a great Charger fan and would often strike up a rousing rivalry with his family members. His other interests were making Elderberry wine which turned the floors purple. He enjoyed restoring old cars and trucks, toy slots cars and flying model planes with a stint into off-road racing and dune buggies.
John loved his work. His primary interest in life was computer technology. In 2009 he retired from the County of Riverside, where he enjoyed a long career as a Lead IT Engineer nicknamed "The Wizard".
John was always learning and he was highly intelligent. He was a man that cared for his family. He especially cared for Suzanne his wife. He always put her first. He took on her boys; caring for them as if they were his own. And, they were. John was always there for his family. He would never hesitate to provide for them or to lend them a helping hand. Those who knew him will always remember him as a man of few words; but what he did say would be powerful and wise.
Preceding him in death was his beloved sister, Debra Selvo. Also preceding him in death was his favorite "My little buddy", Grandson, Nicholas Alexander.
John will be dearly missed and cherished by his wife of 43 years, Suzanne. Cherishing their memories of him will be his two sons, Ronald and Jeffery Thompson and Ronald's wife Holly. Remembering him fondly as well will be his daughter, Allyson and his son-in-law Ricky Yamauchi. Feeling this deep loss will be his sister, Peggy Hust and her children, John and Fred. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Sara Christine, Robbie, 2nd LT Ryan Yamauchi and his sister Camylle. Last but not least, the one who never left his side and who he will be missed by is his canine companion, Shadow.
John touched many lives and will be truly missed by all those who were honored to know him and who loved him.
