Peacefully and quietly, Kendall LaVerne Tilley passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018, in Hemet, California. Ken is survived by his wife, two daughters, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Born in Brooklyn, Wisconsin, on February 19, 1940, Ken was raised by his late father William Tilley and late mother Lucille Best, and had five siblings: Gerald, David, Anita, Sharon, and Kristi.
A proud American, Ken served in the United Stated Marine Corps.
In 1966, Ken would frequent a bar and grill during his lunch hour in Anaheim, California, where he met the love of his life, Betty.
He then married her on May 24, 1968, and became a father of three children: LaVonne, Diana, and Dennis.
Ken was a loving, giving, and family oriented man. When daughter LaVonne got her first car, it was inoperable and Ken rebuilt the engine piece-by-piece after studying the manual.
Ken loved playing solitaire, traveling, and bowling. He was a huge fan of the Los Angeles Angels and often went to go see them play in Anaheim. He was also a fan of the Green Bay Packers.
In 1996, Ken trained for and ran the Los Angeles Marathon, alongside his daughter Diana and grandson, Jackson.
When he was asked to officiate granddaughter Brittany's wedding, he stood proud, having taken all the necessary steps to become ordained.
He will be remembered as cheering on and never missing any sporting event in which his family participated.
Services for Ken will be private; he will be interred in the Columbarium at Riverside National Cemetery with military honors due to him.
