I'm, Carol Shaffer Larry's sister in-law. We live in Idaho we always looked forward their visits. We've had a lot of fun trips with them. Always looked forward to a good game of pinochle. Larry will be missed loved him like a brother. Larry and his brother Jim would always try to get the best of Judy and I we had to be on our toes.

In the sixth grade Larry and I were matched up in a boxing match.  We stood  toe to toe and slugged it out for 3 rounds and it was declared a draw. All the kids wanted us to hjave another bout but we both declined.  Larry was always cheerful and seemed to enjoy life.

I have happy memories of watching volleyball games and wrestling matches with Larry and Judy. Their grandkids and our kids went to the same schools together and played on many of the same sports teams. Larry made these events fun with his enthusiastic cheering and funny stories. I enjoyed sitting next to him and talking about the happenings in his life and family. Also, my family and I had the privilege of going to "The Lot" several times over the years. This camping lot was purchased by Larry and Judy years ago and they were very generous to share it with their family and even us on the outside. We have so many happy memories of that campground, including but not limited to; playing card games, swimming, paddle boarding, playing basketball and laying in the famous hammock. We so appreciate the expense and time that Larry, Judy and family put into that special spot. We will never forget it.

One thing that Larry and I had in common is that we both loved coffee. I remember having coffee with him here and there and oddly enough, its one of my favorite memories of spending time with him. 

I am proud to have known Larry. A good man is hard to find these days, yet I know he was a good man because I saw the way his grandkids trusted him, how his family depended on him, and the way everyone loved him. I especially admire him for the gracious way he finished his life.

Larry and I met about 4 years ago in front of the Enumclaw, WA Starbucks. He was with a group of "mature" motorcycle riders who met regularly for coffee. I was on my bike too and so was invited to join them. Larry organized periodic breakfast rides, which were always a lot of fun. Larry enjoyed life during those times and spoke affectionately of his long-time wife Judy and their children and grandchildren. He obviously was a man loved by many people, especially his many family members. When it was apparent his riding days were over last fall, he gave me his leather motorcycle jacket. It is now one of my cherished possessions.

I was hired by Mt Rainier Bank as a commercial loan officer and worked with Larry whom was mentoring me to take his place when he got ready to retire in a few years.  All was good until a merger was announced and Larry said to me I have been through three of these and I am not going through another one so he retired and left me to sink or swim.  We became great friends when he realized we were both left handed, we were both born in April and we both rode motorcycles.  
  
When I retired every week or two our little motorcyle group (I called us the Old Fart bikers) would go on a breakfast ride which was almost always planed by Larry.

I will always miss his laughter.

My name is Autumn and I am one of larry's grandchildren. He was pop pop to me and as well to so many of my friends that he adored so very much. Pop-pop gave me so many memories and so many great things to talk about and think about in the future. He always supported me and came to my volleyball games with my grandma and parents, I could always hear him cheering the loudest in the stands. His personality will never be forgotten with his fun jokes that always seemed to cheer me up. 

One of my favorite memories of him will always be when we went camping at the Lot with my family, including my friend Lexi, who he adored just as much as his grandkids. We always played card games and Pop-pop would be over by the fire taking one of his daily naps snoring loudly for us to all hear, sometimes even with his mouth open and us, kids would put some food in his mouth LOL! 

Another great memory I will never forget is the time he, grandma, and I drove to Idaho to see his brother and my friend Hope, we had a fun time driving for the 8 hours together just chatting and listening to music. 

Another great memory was from when he would take us kids out on his motorcycle and he would always stop at the Wally's Drive-in to get us some ice cream on our way back he would say "make sure to not tell your parents", haha! He sure loved his soft served ice cream cones!

Pop-pop always wanted to keep in touch and would always send very sweet and thoughtful text messages asking how we are and what's new in our lives. 

His love for cats will also be one of my favorite aspects about him, he fully supported me with my pet cat and the decisions I made for him. He would always have one of his kitties on his lap, even both at times, he adored them so much. 

Our pop-pop will never be forgotten. His smile and cheerfulness will never leave our earth. I will forever miss you pop-pop, but this is not a goodbye, just a see you later. 

Thank you for watching over us and staying close to us forever.

My name is Alexis and I am one of his granddaughters, autumns best friends, he was and always will be pop pop to me. Even though we wasn’t my blood grandpa he was definitely in my heart, everytime I’d see him, talk to him, have a laugh with him he would make my entire day. He was such a light in my life and I will miss him dearly. My favorite memories with pop pop was when he always came to support autumn and i’s volleyball games, he was literally always there to cheer us on or even cheer us up. I also will never forget all the amazing camping trips to the lot, he made them so much fun with his jokes and laughs and those memories I will always hold and cherish forever, so much love for you and the family.xoxo
