Laura Christine Mekeel of Hemet, California, passed away on July 7, 2024 in Wildomar, California. She was 93 years old. She worked 27 years for the New York Telephone Company, now known as, Verizon, as a long distance and information operator. She retired in 1988. She was born June 2, 1931 in Poughkeepsie, New York to David and Marion Yudell. Ms. Mekeel graduated from Peekskill High School in 1949. She married Richard Lewis Mekeel in 1952. She lived in Peekskill from 1934-1990 when she moved to Hemet, California.
Ms. Mekeel was an active member of the Peekskill United First Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed commercial art, dressmaking, singing, writing, and homemaking. Since moving to Hemet, Laura was a member of Happy Harmoneers.
She was preceded in death by her son, Richard L. Mekeel. She is survived by her sons; Bryant C. Mekeel, Darryl J Mekeel, and seven grandchildren.
Services are pending at this time. Internment will be in New York, at the Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, New York.
