Bright and shining like warm summer skies,
103 years of wisdom sparkles in his eyes.
In his penetrating gaze the steadiness of truth and love,
Anyone who knew him understood; my Uncle Leon was a cut above.
Now, whether taking photographs and tying flies,
Precision's own artist dwelled in his eyes.
Through a camera lens, his love of life's full measure,
I see childhood's sweet memories to treasure.
My Uncle Leon was not like ordinary guys,
Such a zest for love and life lived in his eyes!
I know that I am blessed all of my days,
For he showed me how to love nature's wild ways!
And when with happy sentimental sighs,
I recall the uncommon spirit in his eyes.
I will think of Penrose Lane, Yellowstone, cameras, fishing tackle, golf clubs, and Uncle Leon standing there.
I will think of collie dogs, ducks, goats, pomegranates, lemons, and old canvas tent with Smokey Bear.
And now as if in fast forward my own time flies,
I will take a moment to remember the astuteness in his eyes.
Will hear his voice speaking directly to me,
Of good grammar, good manners, and integrity.
I will remember many sweet hellos and fond goodbyes.
And mostly I will remember the love I saw, in his eyes.
