She was born Thursday, February 22, 1934 in Langdon, North Dakota. She attended school in Grand Forks, ND. After High School she worked in a hospital where she met the love of her life, Wilbur York. They married on April 15, 1954. One year later, they packed up all their belongings in the trunk of their car and moved to California. Five years later, Marilyn and Wilbur were blessed with their only child, Carol. In California, Marilyn worked for various car dealerships, Union Bank, and Bay Cities National Bank, where she served as the CFO. She eventually left the banking world and became a Real Estate Agent. Wilbur finally convinced her to retire and they moved from their home of 40 years in Torrance to Hemet. They traveled the country in their motor home, and took several cruises. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her two grandchildren, Courtney and Steven Brooks. She spent many years compiling genealogy for the Knutson, Kitchin, Haugland, and York families, finishing with a detailed book given to all the families. Marilyn was a very loving wife to Wilbur during their 58 years of marriage, a wonderful and caring mother to her daughter Carol, and an incredible grandmother to Courtney and Steven. Marilyn cherished all of her friendships and loved her family more than anything.
