Marion Alvin (“Al”) Hopper, 80, was born on July 31, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, to Ira A. Hopper and Edith L. Warren and peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family on November 25, 2025, in Hemet, California.
Al, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in our Heavenly Father. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Hopper; daughters April Jordan, Kathy Jackson, and Michelle Rius; and sons-in-law John Jordan and Jevon Jackson. He was a proud grandfather to Marc Davis, Andrew Davis, Michael Warren, and Tristin McClinton, and step-grandfather to Keanua Jordan, Keoni Jordan, Levi Jordan, Jevon Jr. Jackson, Tanyeka Jackson, Dantay Jackson, and Sierra Jackson. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law Judith Grupe and Elizabeth Michener, brother-in-law David Michener, nephews Kenneth Van Heule, Stephen Michener, and David Michener Jr., and many wonderful great-nieces and great-nephews.
After graduating from Balboa High School, Al joined the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served for four years, including one year in the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he met Patricia in San Clemente, California, who would become his beloved wife of 58 years. Al later earned his associate’s degree from Cypress College and worked for 37 years as an automotive technician with Bridgestone/Firestone before retiring in 2004.
In his younger years, Al loved to swim, surf, play soccer, high dive, and he also enjoyed boxing. He was honored to be named the very first “Boy of the Year” for the Police Activities League (PAL) in San Francisco—an achievement that reflected his character, determination, and heart even as a young man.
Those who knew Al will remember him for his kind heart and warm laughter, his deep-rooted faith in our Heavenly Father, and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered.
He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. He was known for saying, “We don’t have problems, we have opportunities,” and “Get up and run it off,” simple but powerful reminders to face life’s challenges with strength, optimism, and perseverance.
A Celebration of Life to honor Marion “Al” Hopper will be held at a later date; details will be shared with family and friends once they are finalized.
