

Marla Lee Gallegos, 80, of Hemet, California, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, enveloped by the love of her family. Born on February 3, 1945, in Los Angeles, California, Marla lived a life defined by unwavering devotion to her family, boundless kindness, and a faith that radiated warmth to all who knew her.
Raised in a modest Long Beach home alongside her parents, Virginia and Marlin, and her brother, Gary Hathaway, Marla cultivated a deep sense of community and spirituality. A 1962 graduate of Jordan High School in Long Beach, she carried her values into adulthood. Marla’s first marriage to Val Mayo brought her the joy of motherhood with her two sons, David and Kevin Mayo. Later, while working at GTE, she met Leo Ruben Gallegos, the love of her life. Their marriage, celebrated in a heartfelt ceremony, built a home filled with laughter, love, and treasured traditions.
Marla’s gentle spirit and generous heart were her hallmarks. Known for her warm hugs and ability to make everyone feel cherished, she had a gift for turning strangers into friends. She was a second mom to many of her sons’ friends, always ready with a listening ear, a home-cooked meal, or a word of encouragement. She found solace in quiet moments reading her favorite books and delight in lively family gatherings, especially with her grandchildren, Anthony, Jordan, and Jessie Mayo, who were her pride and joy. Her legacy of compassion endures in the countless lives she touched.
Marla is survived by her sons, David and Kevin Mayo; her three grandchildren, Anthony, Jordan, and Jessie Mayo; and her nephew, Michael Hathaway. She was predeceased by her first husband, Val Mayo; her beloved husband, Leo Ruben Gallegos; her parents, Virginia and Marlin; her brother, Gary Hathaway; and her daughter-in-law, Rachel Mayo. Her family finds solace knowing she is reunited with Leo and loved ones who passed before her.
A memorial service will be held at Miller-Jones Mortuary Chapel in Hemet, California, on November 5, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at Riverside National Cemetery at 1:00 PM, where Marla will be laid to rest.
