

Mary Alice Nelson (Sister) was born May 8, 1928 to John and Ardora (Audrey) Haynes of Danville, Illinois. Sister was the youngest of five children and graduated from Danville High School, where she was an active dancer and drumette.
In 1950, a union between Sister and Bobby Broungh (deceased) blessed her with her first daughter Bobette Elaine Broungh. Six years later, Sister and Bobette moved to Los Angeles, California to reside.
On July 28, 1962, Sister married James (Jimmy) Lester Nelson, they were blessed with a second daughter Angela (Angie) Jean Nelson. She was a devoted housewife until the passing of Jimmy in 1975.
Sister enjoyed dancing and was an active poker player with her friends and family and a member of Holy Way C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Bishop Charles Nauden.
In 1990, she relocated to Moreno Valley, CA, with her daughter Angie and her son-in-law, Raymond Swearingen, Jr. where she played an active role in raising her grandchildren Nicole Ashley Swearingen (27) and James Lee Swearingen (23).
On April 24, 1994, she rededicated her life to Christ and became an active member at New Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Felix Carter, Jr. where she was devoted mother even after her relocation to Henderson, NV in 2010 with her oldest daughter, Bobette and her son-in-law, Mervin Leroy Nauden.
Sister was called home on October 7, 2015 at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Henderson, NV. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Bobette Nauden (Mervin), Angela (Angie) Nelson-Swearingen (Raymond), her grandchildren Nicole and James, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Proceeding her in death are her husband, Jimmy Nelson, her parents John and Audrey Haynes, her siblings, Lilly Lillard (Jessie), Liddie Thomas, Charles (Buster) Morton, Raymond Moppins (Martha Ann), and Landis Haynes (Moudestine).
