Mary Sugrue Hammond

Mary Sugrue Hammond was born December 18, 1938 to the late Edward and Ellen Sugrue; and passed away on March 13, 2015, surrounded by her family.

Mary was a very independent and caring person who loved to help people, and got her degree in nursing in 1960, an began her nursing career at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital, and later worked with an OB/GYN, and several surgeons. She was very loyal and worked up to a couple of days before her son Eric was born and then retired from nursing, just as her boss was also retiring.

Mary's caring spirit continued as her family grew, and her motto was "family first". She enjoyed her two boys and had lots of wonderful birthday and pool parties for them and their friends at their home in Rancho Bernardo; loved taking them to the beach, and shuttling David to his soccer, baseball, and golf tournaments, and then come home and have wonderful family dinners.

Mary's love and pride grew as her family grew; and David and Amanda gave her 2 princesses, Megan and Emily; and Eric and Kate gave her another beautiful granddaughter Grace. Her three granddaughters were her pride and joy!

Mary is survived by her husband Rick; 2 sons Eric (Kate) and David (Amanda); 2 granddaughters, Megan, Emily and Grace; and three sisters, Jean Noel, Kathleen Dwyer, and Betty Hymen. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister Eleanor.

A funeral Mass will be held, Friday, 3/20/2015. at St. Martha Catholic Church, 37200 Whitewood, Murrieta, CA at 10:00AM.
