Maureen Colleen was born on August 16, 1946 in Long Beach, California to Rubie Galveston Downes and Bernard Fredrick Morris. She grew up in Long Beach and met her husband, Robert (Bob), who was in the Navy, at The Pike in 1962. They were married March 2, 1963, and welcomed their son, Richard, into the world on July 3.
During Bob’s time in the Navy, they lived in a few places, including Virginia and Washington, before ultimately settling down in Southern California. They owned an upholstery shop in Fontana for several years, and eventually moved to Garden Grove in the early 1980’s. In 2007, they moved to Hemet where they settled into the welcoming community of Del Webb.
Maureen’s dream job was to be an interior decorator, and she fulfilled that desire by running her own organizing and decorating business during their time in Orange County.
She became a grandma in 1987 and again in 1999. Being Nana was one of her favorite things in life and she wore the title with great pride. In 2018 she was promoted to Great Nana when little Robert was born.
Always a social butterfly, she loved to laugh and made friends wherever she went - spreading cheer and charm. Maureen never hesitated to lend a helping hand and was one of the kindest people anyone had the pleasure of knowing. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo and bocce ball, reading, painting, and winning money at the casino slots.
Maureen passed away peacefully in her home on February 7, 2025, surrounded by her family after battling lung cancer.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her son, Richard (Rick) Medill and his wife, Penny, of Redlands; her granddaughter, Margaret Medill and her husband, Brian Alanis, of Eastvale; her grandson, Ryan Medill and his wife, Emily, of Westminster; and her great-grandson, Robert Medill-Alanis. She also leaves behind her two cats, Bella and Bo; as well as numerous family, friends, and friends that became like family.
She will be deeply missed by all those who love her. May she rest in everlasting peace.
A visitation for Maureen will be held Monday, March 3, 2025 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory, 1501 W. Florida Avenue, Hemet, CA 92543.
