Osvandir Edson (“Ed”) Silva, passed away peacefully at home in Hemet CA on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, at the age of 81. He was born to Oswaldo & Lydia Silva on March 12, 1939, in Sao Paolo, Brazil. He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 62 years Janir, younger brother Osman Silva of Brazil, Daughters Shirley & Claudette, grandchildren Michael and Matthew, Son-In-laws Stewart & Andy.
Ed grew up in Brazil, he loved to participate in soccer and enjoyed playing musical instruments. At the age of 21, Ed immigrated with his new wife to Los Angeles. Speaking little English he set about overcoming obstacles and making a life for his family in America. Ed’s journey took him from dishwasher in a hospital kitchen to Director of Research and Development for international toy manufacturers. He also owned several businesses both in the U.S. and in Brazil.
A man of few words, deep convictions, sense of patriotism, strong will, and determination; Ed was always early & never late, seemingly able to fix anything with his pocket-knife and pocket screw-driver. He possessed a work ethic and attention to detail that was beyond reproach. Forever loyal to slacks and button-downs, Ed could fix the car, paint the house, cut the grass & eat fried chicken in those same clothes, all without getting a speck on him. Ed was a passionate fan of Football (soccer), loved classic country music, photography and travel. He was deeply interested in politics and the world. Ed was extremely satisfied when he received his U.S. Citizenship in 2018.
Ed’s proudest legacy was his two strong daughters who share their father’s passion for hard work, self-discipline, and who both possess unwavering love, loyalty, and respect for their family and friends.
Ed will be missed by his family and friends but will live on in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace.
