Robert Shyrl Moon, devoted follower of Christ, loving patriarch with zealous pride in his family, avid fisherman and deer hunter, gifted handicraftsman and machinist who helped build everything from passenger jetliners to school science projects in need of a skilled hand, and often passionate and opinionated about his beliefs, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2014, at home in San Jacinto, California. He faced difficult health challenges bravely in his latter days, and still never tired of giving generously of his love or of his faithful service to God.
Bob (family members called him Shyrl) was born September 15, 1933, in Salt Lake City, and later sealed for eternity to his mother and stepfather, Ileen and Donald Holmes. He married Joyce Hansen in 1952, and was soon spoiling their son with adoring love from the time of his birth in 1954. In 1977, he and Joyce divorced.
In 1978, he married his beloved soul mate, Sondra, whom he grew to exalt as "the most wonderful person in this world." In 1982, they sealed their union for eternity. For 12 years, they made their home in Springville, Utah, a cherished place that their hearts never really left.
His work manufacturing airplanes from Air Force T-38s to Boeing 747 jumbo jets spanned 37 years, during which he rose from a $1.50 an hour machine operator to Machine Shop Superintendent at Northrop Aircraft in California. In later years, he considered his numerous callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to be his most important work.
Bob is survived by his wife Sondra; sister Linda (Gary); son Robert L.; stepchildren Steven and Dawn; and treasured grandchildren Rob, Sarah, Aubrhe, Emily, Kelly and Jenna. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Philip and Mary Diane.
