

Robert Donald Storey was born to John and Lucille Storey December 17 1933 in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Robert,Bob to his friends, spent his formative years Cedar Rapids. After leaving High school in 1952 Bob went to work at the State theater in Cedar Rapids; and it was there that he met the love of his life Darlene . They married in August of 1953 and in September 1954 Darlene gave birth to their only child Donald.
Bob and Darlene began by building a home in Cedar Rapids, but in 1959. moved to Palm Springs California frankly to get away from snow. Bob always said he'd start west carrying a snow shovel and when he got to a place where someone asked "what's that?" he'd settle down . Bob's parents had preceded him to Palm Springs two years earlier. Bob worked for the Palm Springs water company that first year. It was there that he began a life long love of education by first completing his high school diploma. In 1960 He took a job in the water Dept. of Salton City Calif. In 1961 Bob was hired by the water department in the city of Pomona Calif.
In Pomona while working full time for the city he started night classes at Mount San Antonio college . When his son turned 8 he also added Little League coach to his list of things to do. In 1969 Bob graduated from Mt.SAC with an associates degree Later in his life he would complete a Masters Degree in Public Administration at California State University Los Angeles.
Bob worked his way up the ladder in water service for the cities of Chino,Huntington Park and finally,just before retirement, was the assistant manager of the Valley County Water District.
Bob loved the beach and fishing.After many a day and night spent fishing from the piers in Newport Beach decided he toss the pole for a SCUBA tank and get in their and find the fish himself. Both he and his son became certified divers and spent weekends diving various spots in Southern California. But perhaps his greatest love after his family was the Lakers and listening to their games being called by Chick Hearn.
Bob and Darlene retired to Hemet in '92 and spent their days taking trips to see the things they had always wanted to like the changing of the leaves in New England. Bob and Darlene could be seen about town. Bob on his three wheeled bicycle and Darlene on foot close by his side.
Robert is survived by his wife Darlene,son Donald,daughter-in law Rebecca,Brother John as well as many relatives in Iowa. If you choose,the family requests a donation to the Parkinson Foundation in lieu of flowers.
Services for Robert will be at the Menifee Valley Cemetery, Sun city Ca. November 4 at 10 am.
