

Salvador Vega Maldonado, 90 of Hemet, California passed on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at surrounded by family and friends. He was born Tuesday, June 13, 1922 in Chandler AZ. He is survived by his wife Consuelo Maldonado for 61 years. Salvador was proud to serve in the US Navy and was a survivor of the USS Indianapolis which was torpedoed and sunk during a classified mission during WWII. He survived 5 days in the water before being rescued. He also reenlisted in the Army during the Korean War and served in the National Guard for many years. Salvador loved to fish and take the family camping all over southern California. One of his favorite spots to fish was from the shore at Big Bear Lake. Salvador and Connie also enjoyed taking the kids to the beach, have family BBQ's and they were Angels fans for years. His family describes him as a hero, hard worker where he provided for his family by often working three jobs, a survivor, and he was very active in his church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Preceded in death are his parents Salvador and Caroline Maldonado, brothers Pete and Chuck Maldonado, and sons Salvador and Gabriel Maldonado, Surviving are sons, Anthony Maldonado wife (Carrie), Peter Maldonado wife (Evelyn), Michael Maldonado and Albert Agundes wife (Tonya ), daughters, Connie Stuff husband (Carl) and Maria Rodarte husband (Robert Neal), sisters, Elodia Naranjo, Virginia Torres, Caroline Esquer, Aurora Garcia, Nena Hunt and brother Ernest Maldonado. Interment will be in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA. on March 11, 2013 at 1:15pm will full military honors.
