On April 2, 2014 our beloved father, Scott Ward King passed away following a long battle with serious health issues. Born on March 29, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to parents Robert and Ramona King, he was a Chicago resident and lived the majority of his life in California. A veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. King served aboard submarine rescue and support ships . He was a gifted artist with a career in sign painting that spanned approximately 45 years. With unwavering will and perseverance, he survived a tragic accident in 1987 when a billboard he was working on, gave way leaving him critically injured and in a coma facing certain death. He would make a miraculous recovery and return to his profession without missing a step. Scott was an avid fitness enthusiast and aspired to compete professionally in the sport of bodybuilding. Though he never achieved his ultimate goal in competitive bodybuilding, he never swayed from it and continued weight-lifting up until his death despite dealing with serious health issues. He described himself as a "miracle in progress" in a 2007 newspaper story on his campaign to compete in the senior division of the Mr. California bodybuilding championship. He was a dedicated and dependable person who always put others before himself. In the mid nineteen-nineties, he suffered extreme economic loss and found himself homeless but even then continued to give to others even when he had almost no resources. Scott would rebound from his unfortunate circumstances and always remained true to his credo of "always helping others when you can". With an impeccable work ethic, Scott possessed a sterling reputation both in and outside of his field by always remaining true to his word. As a father, he cared for his children graciously while instilling strong core values to ensure his children would grow to become honest and dependable members of society. Scott was a deeply caring person with a passion for charity. He loved art, coin and stamp collecting, outdoor activities, movies and music.
He is survived by his two siblings, three children and seven grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on April 12, 2014 at 1PM at Miller Jones Mortuary in Sun City, CA. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations are given to Scott's favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Boys Town and Native American Schools.
